About MARUTI SUZUKI OMNI
Maruti Suzuki Omni is the cheapest micro-van in the Indian market. Not much has changed in the external design since it was launched in 1985. There is no radiator grille, but there are body bumpers. The front is plain except for the windshield and rectangular headlamps. The side profile is dominated by two rear sliding doors. The Omni comes with a 5 and 8 seat option. The upholstery is dual tone which adds colour to the interior. There is enough leg room for passengers. Good quality fabric is used on the seats and flooring.
Maruti Suzuki Omni comes with a petrol engine that produces 786 cc and a power output of 32 bhp along with torque of 57 Nm. You can also opt for an LPG engine.
The engine makes the Omni unique. It follows a front mid - engine rear wheel drive layout that creates space for passengers and cargo. This also puts the engine right underneath the passenger seat.
The car comes with basic accessories like cup holders and a glove box. The brakeage system consists of disc brakes at the front and drum brakes at the rear. The small turning radius allows the car to be easily maneuverable, especially around tight corners. Seat belts and a high impact beam make up the safety features of Maruti Suzuki Omni.
Tata Venture and Maruti Suzuki Eeco are its main competitors. Maruti Suzuki Omni beats them by being more affordable and having a higher elevation from the ground.

What we like
- Practical style, low cost, value for money, low maintenance, decent mileage, good interior space and also good leg space
- Has a multi-purpose use, as a people carrier, taxi service, for cargo transport, and as an ambulance service
- The specialty of this iconic car is its sliding doors which offers easy access and is handy
What we don't like
- Not great in the looks department, outdated design, looks like a box with windows
- Safety features are practically nonexistent, average performance, offers a bouncy ride, has no pick up and not comfortable to ride in and is not a powerful vehicle
- Interiors are threadbare; seating is basic, best only as a city car, cargo van or taxi
The iconic, history-making, the Maruti Suzuki Omni has been around from the 1980s and it is still around. A versatile, practical vehicle that suits many needs and makes many fitments, it serves as a cargo carrier, as much a people vehicle; it serves as a taxi and even an ambulance. Coupled with roomy interiors and sliding doors, it has become a part of the automotive landscape. But its basic interiors, bad seating, bouncy feeling, no safety features and no air conditioning are a couple of its downsides. Buts its extensive usage, pricing and being a city vehicle, ensures the cash registers are still ringing.
